May 21st was the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Real Warriors Campaign web site.
Military service members face a number of highly stressful situations, including deployment, combat exposure, and reintegration. Therefore, it is not surprising that we see high rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as other difficulties (for example, alcohol use, physical health problems, and suicide), among those in the military. In addition, military service can be stressful for the friends and families of service members. Fortunately, there are resources available for our veterans and their families.
The Real Warriors Campaign is a multimedia public education campaign focused on combating the stigma associated with getting help for psychological difficulties. The Real Warriors Campaign offers testimonials of real soldiers who have displayed tremendous strength and courage in reaching out for the treatment they need. Further, these stories show that obtaining help does not mean the end of a military career.
The website is incredibly unique. In addition to articles and other resources, the Real Warriors Campaign web site offers a live chat function connecting individuals with health consultants at the DCoE Outreach Center. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you are a returning veteran in need of help or if you are a loved one of a veteran seeking information and assistance, you should check out the Real Warriors Campaign web site today.
