Should Veterans with PTSD be Eligible for the Purple Heart?

Veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan show high rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as do veterans from other wars, such as the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. A recent article in the USA Today reports that the Department of Defense has determined that veterans who have PTSD are not eligible to receive the Purple Heart because of their PTSD.
